List building is the most dependable marketing technique ever invented. Think about it, list building has been profitable since the invention of emails, and until now the most successful internet marketers say “build a list”.

Though list building is only one method out of many, its principles and effect remains constant. Look at search engine optimization, I agree it is effective but it is dependent on search engines. If an adjustment in search engine policies occur, you can wave your position goodbye or worse be “sandboxed”. If this happens you can say goodbye to all your traffic.

There’s also web 2.0 sites creation, these sites are placed high in the search results but the owners could also suddenly change policies which can result in your web 2.0 property being “locked up”. This thing happened to Squidoo and Hubpages is so strict these days that it’s very hard to use when promoting products online.

The only thing that hasn’t changed for years is email marketing and its accompanying activity, list building. Though there are improvements through the years like sending HTML emails and stronger spam filters implemented by email servers. Still the process is still pretty much the same. Send people to your opt-in form, sign them up and send offers and promotions along with valuable information.

So if you are still thinking about the most profitable internet marketing activity to do, start with list building. It’s worth it.

How to find the Hottest Product by looking at Buyers’ Marketplaces

Millions of products are available online and majority of these products have some form of affiliate programs where you can sell the products for commissions, whether it’s through Clickbank, Amazon, Commission Junction, e-Junkie or an in-house affiliate program.

However, not all of these products will sell. Some of them just won’t attract buyers and will result in low conversions and loss of profit on your end, not to mention the wasted time you’ll spend promoting such product.

The question now is how to determine really hot products that you can sell today and start raking in some cash from your effort.

A lot of other marketers will advice you to use keyword tools such as Google’s keyword tool or the SEO Book keyword tool selector to determine whether a market is hot. I agree, these are powerful tools, but somehow the advice is misleading. It only represents half of the truth. Be careful when depending solely on search engine’s keyword tool results, it could lead to a market selection disaster.

The reason is, not all of the people doing searches are intending to buy a product when they perform a search on Google. On search engines you have both a mixture of buyers and tire-kicking freebie seekers.

So, what do you do to get the actual searches made by real buyers? It’s simple, all you have to do is go to marketplaces where majority of visitors are buyers.

To get a clear picture of the profitability of a product, check it’s popularity on several marketplaces. If it shows a strong position in different marketplaces, then you’re lucky. You’ve found a goldmine you can easily promote immediately.

To give you a clear example, when you are looking for hot products, visit ebay pulse, it is where you can find the most popular search terms on eBay. The good thing about this is that most people who frequent eBay are hot leads.

Another place you can visit to check certain products popularity is Shopping.com, it’s similar to eBay pulse and shops at paypal.com

Get the statistics data from these sites based on your keywords, and cross reference them to check if you indeed found something worthwhile to promote. Enjoy!
