Your Website’s Vitals

This may seem like a trick question but it is not so because truly many people are never aware of which section of their website is most important for them. They will not realize that if not handled properly, this section will absolutely kill off their websites much less enable them to have an income from it. Actually, there are many important sections as it were but there is one section which can make or mar all your chances.

However, to understand how that section works or what I am going to explain, you need to know how your website works and how people are able to come and visit your website if you have listed it under any search engine. That is it, the search engine and that is the primary place which people go to when in need of any solution or any information. So, what do you do, type in something and get a pages of ten to twenty results amongst which you choose for the page you need.

But how do you select the page that best meets your demands and needs? Well you sieve through the entire lot of results and get the one which answers your problem correctly. And this sieving is done only by reading just a little bit of the page info, the introduction and a little summary that comes with the search result. Now, put your thinking cap on and think about which is the most important section of your website? Well, don’t be so slow, it is the introduction of your site, the one which will tell people that this is the site they are looking for.

Let us take an example to illustrate better. Say you search for ant-aging creams and you type the same in the search box. You get many results and one of them says, “Highbro anti-aging cream, your one stop aging solution” while another says, “Anti aging page”. Which one would you select effectively? Well obviously not the second one!

But if you are suffering under the delusion that there aren’t sites with descriptions like the second one just check Google once again and you will know. You can ven try opening it and going through it, I can guarantee that you would feel like getting some fresh air!

So, even if there is nothing that you can do for your website get it a good name and a first class description.

Put in some quality content and it is sure to sell.

USING SURVEYS TO GET CUSTOMERS

I’m not talking about those lousy sites where you take a survey and they pay you 10 credits for it and then when you have 100,000 credits they send you a check for $10. No, I’m talking about how to make surveys work for you by making your own surveys. It’s going to take a little bit of work, but the effort will pay off in spades.

One of the biggest problems that marketers have in selling their product or service is quite simply that they don’t know what people want. Think about it. If you knew exactly what a particular market was looking for, you’d know exactly what to do with your product or service, provided that it was physically possible. Let’s face it, some people want things that are just not realistic. But for the most part, your target market knows what it wants within reason. So how can a survey take advantage of this knowledge?

If you have your own website, or even if you don’t, you can put up a survey to ask potential customers some critical questions about what they are looking for in whatever it is you’re selling. The first obstacle you’ll probably need to overcome is coming up with the right questions. This is actually easy enough. Simply go to a search engine and type in “what do people look for in ?” And fill in the blank with whatever it is that you’re selling. More likely than not, you’ll probably run into a survey yourself. There is nothing wrong with taking those questions and making your own survey. Just put the questions in your own words.

Now, after you’ve come up with the questions, the next thing you’re going to want to do is put them on your site, if you have one, or in an email to your opt-in list, if you have one of those. Now, for putting the questions on your website, that is going to require a means of capturing the answers. This can be done either by having the person fill out an email form (very cumbersome) or fill in an online form, which is going to require some HTML knowledge of forms. If you’re not familiar with forms, just go to a search engine and look up “HTML forms instruction” or something alone those lines. You are bound to find plenty of instructional sites that are free that will teach you how to do forms on a website.

After you have everything set up, all that is left is to wait until the answers start coming in. Once they do, you’ll have a very good idea of what to do with your product or service to make it more attractive to potential customers. The next step is simply to put your thinking cap on and come up with a way to implement these changes with the least amount of effort and cost. You have to weigh the cost factor against the profit margin for each addition to your product or service before you consider making the upgrade. But that’s something for another article.

LISTING YOUR E-ZINE IN DIRECTORIES

The first thing you want to do after finishing up your e-zine is make it known to the outside world that it even exists, because let’s face it, if people don’t know that your e-zine is out there, you’re not going to get any subscribers.

So, how do we do this?

Well, the best and quickest way is to get your e-zine listed in as many e-zine directories as you can. This way, when a person who is looking for a particular e-zine does a look up under a certain category, they’ve got a decent shot of finding your e-zine. So that’s the first place you want to hit.

Another way of getting your e-zine out there is to frequent some forums for the niche where your e-zine would be most popular. Simply place a link in your signature that you have a new e-zine. Remember the 10 words that say buy series? New is one of those words. People love new e-zines, if for no other reason than to check them out. This is where you really have to impress them so that word of your e-zine gets around fast. Yes, forums have a great viral effect for spreading the word about things. Why? Because people at forums LOVE to talk. And if they have something to talk about, all the better.

But let’s get back to the subject of e-zine directories, because that’s where you want to concentrate most of your efforts.

So, how exactly do you go about submitting your e-zine to a directory and getting it listed? Well, what follows is a step by step approach. I hope it helps.

Step 1 – Go to any search engine (I prefer Google) and Do a search for “ezine directories” There are far too many to list here.

Step 2 – Fill out the online application form at each ezine directory. They will all be a little different, but they will ask for the same basic information, such as name of ezine, frequency of publication, publisher’s name and contact information and opt-in procedures. Some may ask if you accept advertising or not. Fill out all the information.

Step 3 – Some directories may have a wait period between the time you sign up and the time you are allowed to submit your ezine. So wait to hear from them after your submit your e-zine. You will also be notified as to whether or not your e-zine is even accepted. In most cases they are, but you can never be 100% certain.

Step 4 – Go to the submission page of the ezine directory and list your ezine. This will include a description of your ezine and your intended audience. Spare no details. Be very clear about what your focus is. You want people to know exactly what your e-zine is about. Being vague about this is not going to get you many subscribers.

Step 5 – If you get an e-mail confirmation after filling out your intial application, be sure to click on the confirmation link. You may not be allowed to list your ezine until you do. So many people fail to do this. So make sure you have the directory white listed in your email account or you may not even get the confirmation.

And that’s it. After that, you should start seeing some subscribers to your e-zine, slowly at first, but picking up as time goes on.

If this seems like a tedious and slow process, it is. But it is a crucial one if you’re going to let the outside world know that you have an e-zine.

So don’t skip the process. You’ll thank me for this later on.
