How do you handle business burnout?

A burnout is something that happens to the best us at the best of times. Even I, who seem to be so strong and knowledgeable about this field, have suffered from the same many a times. However, from a few days, I feel as if I cannot take the extra load any more; as if I just want to shut everything out and be done with it. But, what do you do when you reach such a situation that you just cannot take it anymore? Following are a few helpful notes that have helped me survive through such burnouts and I hope that they will help you too.

The very first thing that you should do as soon as possible is take a break, get away from work. I have seen many of my friends trying to handle a burnout by working through it in double intensity, but that does not help in the end. It aggravates your problem because you are completely blocking your mind against the problem and trying to behave as if everything is normal. This won’t help and so just try and relax. Usually, I start strumming on my guitar at such times and it really works wonders for me. If you have any other hobby then you can try cultivating that. These things will take your mind off the work and help you take the much needed break.

Then you need to prepare the return to work. Just as you need to get away from work, there will be a time when the work will seem more inevitable than ever. You cannot simply ignore that you have a business to handle! So, after you feel quite refreshed take preparation to return back to work with a fresh mind. The first and foremost thing that you have to do now is make yourself a schedule. Now, this schedule has to be something which will allow you enough time to relax. The very fact that you are having a burnout shows that your schedule was over packed. Therefore you need to make a schedule which is a bit lighter. Do not dropout days entirely, do some but little work occasionally. This will prevent further burnouts from taking place.

Now, as you slowly get acclimatized to work after your return from the break, start putting in some extra work here and there. Since you have come back into the full swing of your work, therefore you can now afford to work harder and more. Keep on putting pressure on yourself till you realize the breaking point. Once you discover that, keep away from such levels of work and stop burnouts entirely.

It is with a lot of discipline that you need to build as well as maintain the reputation of your company.
